CarFinance recently had an interesting article written about our history, and how we’ve been helping New Zealanders finance their vehicles and assets over the last five years.
Just what was this guy thinking five years ago?
As it turns out he was thinking about the future! Yes, that’s right, Greg Trask Financial Services Limited is five years old. Greg has come a long way since he found himself out of his job of 12 years with The Williams and Adams Motor Group.
Going into a new business literally involved borrowing a car from his extended family and a month-by-month lease agreement, cemented via a handshake. Given the Global Financial Crisis of the time and the closure of many well-known financial companies, he knew he was taking a big risk.
Greg sat the lack of financial facilities available and recognised an opportunity to set up carfinance.co.nz. Mark Solomon was to thank for that, and over a quiet chat, they set in motion purchasing the website that was for sale out of Canada. Brokered by a UK based company and with funds paid to a German Bank account, it had the makings of a Tui ad – “Yeah Right!”
In 2009 Greg, with 20 years’ experience in the finance industry, joined the Allfinanz brand in Lower Hutt. This was the successful brand created by Mark Solomon and his father, the late Gary Solomon. It involved satisfying the needs of both private and commercial clients by way of Insurance, Investments, Kiwi Saver, Mortgage Funding, Accounting and, in Greg’s case, Asset Finance Lending.
Five years on, finance has been provided for everything from a 1972 D8 Caterpillar Bulldozer, to a $4000 second hand car, and a $700,000 Kenworth truck with a refrigerated B Train Trailer. Greg is now moving from the predominately local area of using his name to the more nation-wide carfinance.co.nz name. Already clients extend from Invercargill to Whangarei.
In November 2011 Greg re-joined with Dawn Butler, an ex-finance colleague. Dawn is the administrative manager and has a wealth of administration and compliance experience. Dawn’s husband Paul has a formula first race car and has won a national championship. Greg thoroughly enjoys supporting and sponsoring Paul (fondly nicknamed “The Stig”). Greg is also very proud to be a foundation sponsor of the Hutt Hospital’s Children’s Triage Unit, known as The Tree Hutt, sponsoring Matilda the Morepork.
He is a board member of the HIBS Foundation and has helped set up an annually run the successful charity golf day.
Business to Greg has never been about chasing a large empire… he simply wants to provide the best financial solution for his clients whilst giving back to the community.
The catch phrase of CarFinance is “We finance more than just cars”. Greg and his team can talk to a customer to find out exactly what their situation is, and tailor a financial solution to fit. This may be a new purchase, such as buying a car privately from Trade Me, raising funds or refinancing. Anything can be considered and customers are assured of complete confidentiality.
You may have seen Greg’s sign-written 4WD truck. Don’t worry, it hasn’t shrunk in the wash… Rather, Amu Huston is the latest addition to the team, complete with a Suzuki Swift which has also been sign written in the company livery. Amy brings her own unique flavour to CarFinance, providing specialised support to motor vehicle dealers and their customers.
So watch this space for the next five years!
